This month we have possibly the most exciting shirt to have come into our collection for a long time to offer you.  This is a monumental shirt in the history of Manchester United as it marked the beginning of one of the club's most succesful periods ever. The man who wore this shirt was the catalyst that ended 26 years of hurt and is still revered and remembered in song at Old Trafford. This is the very shirt that the one and only ERIC DANIEL PIERRE CANTONA  (click on his name for biography) wore in his very first appearance for the club only days after signing from Leeds United.  The rest as they say, is history..............

 

  • This shirt was Cantona's very first United shirt and was worn on the 1st December 1992 in a friendly v Benfica in Lisbon to mark the celebrations for Eusebio's 50th birthday.  Cantona had only signed for United 4 days earlier from Leeds United.
  • Cantona played centre forward in this game and therefore took the number 10 shirt for the match.  The number 7 shirt which he was to become synonymous with was being worn by another United legend that night, Bryan Robson.
  • The United line up for the game was as follows:  1 Schmeichel  2 Parker  3  Irwin  4 Bruce  5 Phelan  6 Pallister  7 Robson  8 Kanchelskis  9 McClair  10 Cantona  11 Giggs  Subs: 
  • The shirt was swapped with a Benfica player at the end of the game from where the shirt was obtained directly
  • Cantona went on to make his league debut v Manchester City on 6.12.92 at Old Trafford, a game which United won 2-1 with Eric's contribution as a 2nd half substitute
