FEBRUARY 2010

For your enjoyment this month we have on show a very special and rare worn Manchester United shirt, worn in the 1977 Charity Shield v Liverpool at Wembley.  The shirt was worn by Jimmy Nicholl who played right back for United on this day (click on name for biographies).

  • This is a very rare shirt due to the fact that not only are these away shirts extremely difficult to find, but for some unknown reason Admiral moved the United crest from the usual place on the right breast of the shirt as you look at it to the left side and moved the Admiral logo in the opposite direction.  This is the only time this was done, all the other away shirts of this type were of the standard setup.
  • Jimmy Nicholl played the full 90 minutes of the game which finished goalless in front of 82,000 spectators who saw the two teams share the Trophy.
  • The United line up for the game was as follows:  1 Stepney  2 Nicholl  3  Albiston  4 McIlroy  5 Greenhoff B  6 Buchan  7 Coppell  8 Greenhoff J  9 Pearson  10 Macari  11 Hill  Subs: McCreery for Greenhoff J
